Out of Season... Out of Fashion 1999

Intimate apparel was presented almost as an art object. The metal from which it was created made it inaccessible, in spite of the fact that the undergarments were visible and not concealed by clothes. The transformation of the garments and the introduction of another additional meaning had a simultaneously distancing and attracting effect. Similarly to many of my other works, my goal in “Out of Season... Out of Fashion” was to turn the clothes into sculptures. Clothing, in that sense, became a functional sculpture.

Had I focused on commercial fashion shows, it would have never occurred to me to use the places I’ve used to stage my runway shows. The environment is important and can sometimes be a significant part of the artistic work.
